Aussie Aussie Aussie! It’s time to say G’day to Sophos as they officially open their brand new data centre located right here on our shores. The city of Sydney is now home to Sophos’ first data centre in the Asia Pacific region.

Announced earlier this year, Sophos has confirmed their Sydney data centre is now operational. The centre will provide local capacity to respond to the growing demand for Sophos Central – their cloud management platform that supports Sophos’ range of cybersecurity products and gives businesses the ability to store, manage, and access data.

The new location comes as fantastic news for us locals who can now benefit from locally-stored data and protection. “At Sophos, we want to make it as easy as possible for customers and partners to access the best threat protection and detection and data storage options available,” confirms Sophos Australia MD John Donovan, “Being able to offer local data centre capabilities means we can stand in front of our customers with an even stronger cybersecurity story.”

Sophos has confirmed the first products to utilise the new data centre will include extended detection and response (XDR), endpoint protection, server protection, and encryption. Managed Threat Response solutions will also be among the first services to access the Sydney centre. These products are all used by All Covered IT clients who can now enjoy the comfort of a Australian-local service.

For larger Australian corporations, the location shift in data storage opens the door to switch to Sophos as a global leader in cybersecurity. “Sophos understands the growing need to provide solutions to data sovereignty for organisations with strict national or local regulatory or policy requirements,” says Gavin Struthers, Sophos APJ regional vice president. Data sovereignty means stored data is subject to the jurisdiction of the country it is located in. Some corporations need to remain within Australian jurisdiction and therefore be protected by Australian data protection laws.

The majority of organisations to benefit are Australian small to medium businesses who will be able to enjoy the perks of storing, managing and accessing data locally and the flexibility that comes with utilising an in-country data centre. All the while, their data remains secured by the world-leader in cybersecurity.

It doesn’t get much better than that! Welcome to down under, Sophos.
